A Wild Night Out for all ages

For those of you who want a kids' experience, whether you've got children with you or you're just a big kid yourself, this is the most amazing way to meet Australia's weird and wonderful wildlife.

This Wild Night Out is for all ages. (However, if you want a grown-ups only night out without kids, we do have some dates reserved just for adults.)

Do you love the idea of a night in the Australian bush, but you don’t really want to sleep rough? How about a cottage with all the comforts of home nestled in the bush alive with friendly wildlife?

The Australian bush puts on an entrancing display of wild nature after dark. This program is jam packed with animal action, from meeting Walkabout Park friendly furry and scaly and spiky residents, to playing tug of war with the devils and spotlighting for wildlife in the trees and undergrowth.

Share a cottage with your friends, your own private haven with everything you need. Open plan, fully equipped kitchen, en suite bathroom, fluffy bath towels, comfortable bed, hotel quality linen, ceiling fan and oil fin heater, dining suite, sofa and even a TV.

When you wake with the kookaburras in the morning, don’t be surprised if there is a kangaroo on your veranda and an emu at the window.

Family Wild Night Out
The Winter and Summer programs are the same, just the timings are different. This is so that you can enjoy the sunset and be at the right place at the right time to see the wildlife when it is at its most active just after dusk.

Although similar, the Family Wild Night Out is NOT the same as the Adults' Wild Night Out. The Family Wild Night Out takes place on the "Animal Loop Walk" and all of the ranger-led activities are focussed on Walkabout Park's animal residents, with lots of up close and personal animal encounters.

On arrival, you will be taken to your cabin where you can settle in, familiarise yourself with the maps and guidelines for interacting safely with the animals, and say “Hi” to the friendly critters feeding around the cottages in the late afternoon.

For late check-in, call (02) 43751100 to arrange entry.

Spkes, Scales, Feathers & Fur

Meet at the visitor centre from where your ranger will take you out on a walkabout adventure to meet some amazing spiky, scaly, feathery and furry creatures.

Head back to the visitor centre for some healthy snacks to keep everyone's energy levels up as dinner will be late. Help yourself to local fruit juice, crackers, trail mix and energy bars.

Spotlighting tour

As the sun goes down and the stars come out, head out with your ranger to play tug of war with the Tasmanian devils, then spy on the nocturnal wildlife. From frogs to flying foxes and bettongs to bandicoots, the bush is full of surprises, you never know what you will find.

Dinner then free time to enjoy your cottage in the bush

After your ranger-led walkabout, return to your cabin for dinner. Your ranger will be around for another ½ hour to entertain the kids while you're preparing dinner, and to answer any of your questions.

After dinner you can relax and enjoy the sounds of the animals in the bush or, staying on the animal loop and keeping the kids close, head out again to see what other animals are out and about in the trees and the bushes.

Morning behind the scenes

Go behind-the-scenes with your ranger for a very personal animal encounter before the park opens to the general public.

Breakfast, then explore the sanctuary or join in the public program of ranger-led activities

Return to your cabin to have breakfast at your leisure. Check out time is 10am, or you might arrange for a 2:30pm late check-out so that you can enjoy the privacy of your cottage during the day.

Collect your activities schedule from reception so you can join in the daily ranger-led activities and animal encounters that run throughout the day from 9:30am until 4pm.

In the event of bad weather and if you have not heard from us, please call (02) 4375 1100 at 12 noon on the day of your booking to find out whether the program is going ahead. Note, cancellation due to weather is extremely unlikely as this is an all-weather event, so bring your rain gear as the rain just adds another dimension of fun to the experience.
