A Wild Night Out just for Grown Ups - Cabins

Do you love the idea of a night in the Australian bush, but you don’t really want to sleep rough? Do you really want a “no kids” experience for a change? How about a cottage with all the comforts of home nestled in the bush alive with friendly wildlife, and all guests aged 16 and over?

The Australian bush puts on an entrancing display of wild nature after dark. Head out with your ranger on a red-beam spotlighting adventure to spy on the animals in the trees and undergrowth.

Share a cottage with your friends, your own private haven with everything you need. Open plan, fully equipped kitchen, en suite bathroom, fluffy bath towels, comfortable bed, hotel quality linen, ceiling fan and oil fin heater, dining suite, sofa and even a TV.

When you wake with the kookaburras in the morning, don’t be surprised if there is a kangaroo on your veranda and an emu at the window.

Adults' Wild Night Out
The Winter and Summer programs are the same, just the timings are different. This is so that you can enjoy the sunset and be at the right place at the right time to see the wildlife when it is at its most active just after dusk.

Although similar, the Adults' Wild Night Out is NOT the same as the Family Wild Night Out. Two important differences are the adults' sunset tour and the opportunity for adults to do their own spotlighting after the ranger-led program ends.

On arrival, you will be taken to your cabin where you can settle in, familiarise yourself with the maps and guidelines for interacting safely with the animals, and say “Hi” to the friendly critters feeding around the cottages in the late afternoon.

For late check-in, call (02) 43751100 to arrange entry.

Sunset tour

Your ranger will collect you from your cottage and take you out on a sunset walk to visit the Aboriginal sites and meet some of Walkabout Park’s weird and wonderful animal residents. Bring your back pack and water bottle along.

Enjoy a packed picnic of local fruit juice, trail mix and energy bars.

Spotlighting tour

As the sun goes down and the stars come out, head out with your ranger to spy on the nocturnal wildlife, using a special red-beam spotlight so as not to disturb the animals. Your ranger will show you how to spot the animals, and how to be safe in the bush after dark.

Dinner then free time to do your own spotlighting

After your ranger-led walkabout, return to your cabin for dinner. Relax and enjoy the sounds of the animals in the bush, or take one of the red-beam torches and go on a self-guided walk to see what other animals are out and about in the trees and the understory, using the tips and tricks you learned earlier in the evening.

Morning behind the scenes

Go behind-the-scenes with your ranger for a very personal animal encounter before the park opens to the general public.

Breakfast, then explore the sanctuary or join in the public program of ranger-led activities

Return to your cabin to have breakfast at your leisure. Check out time is 10am, or you might arrange for a 2:30pm late check-out so that you can enjoy the privacy of your cottage during the day.

Collect your activities schedule from reception so you can join in the daily ranger-led activities and animal encounters that run throughout the day from 9:30am until 4pm.

In the event of bad weather and if you have not heard from us, please call (02) 4375 1100 at 12 noon on the day of your booking to find out whether the program is going ahead.
