For those who really want to learn bush survival techniques and are happy to rough it.
"Go Walkabout" Overnight Bush Survival Workshop
Minimum booking is for 2 people - aged 16 or older
Your experienced guide will ensure you learn practical bush skills. This course is a great for team building! It's interactive and hands-on.
This workshop covers bush tucker and medicine, finding water, temporary shelter building, signalling for rescue, tracking skills, improvisation in a crisis and much much more. This workshop is designed to promote a higher understanding of how to draw on the world around us to find the resources needed to survive. Participants learn how local Aboriginal people understood and worked with the Land prior to European settlement and influences. The Bush Survival Course is for 'over 18's' and does require a reasonable level of fitness. Closed sensible footwear is a must (hiking boots even better) as well as long comfortable pants. We highly recommend long sleeve shirts too, as well as sunscreen, insect repellant and a hat.
What you don't get: There are no showers and no blow-up mattresses, and you will be cooking (and eating) your own food.
What you do get: You will see stars you'll never see in the city, and you'll experience the night world of the animals in a uniquely special way that most people never get to do.
Enjoying the world around us while being safe in the bush
This workshop is not a substitute for first-aid courses and will not equip you with all the tools needed to survive in the bush. However, it will introduce you to the bush in a responsible way. The team at Australia Walkabout Wildlife Park maintains strict safety standards to minimise risk, but please remember this is the Australian bush and there are inherent risks in the environment. You do take part on this program at your own risk.
You will be scrambling over sandstone outcrops to visit ancient Aboriginal shelters wind-carved out of the ledges at Walkabout Park. You do need to wear good closed shoes or boots and clothing suitable for scrambling along rock ledges. When you visit these shallow caves, newly re-discovered, you will see the signs of ancient Aboriginal habitation including beautiful art work and stone structures. Learn about bush tucker, bush medicine, bush tools and bush tracking.
If you would like an exclusive experience, without other members of the public joining your group, please discuss this with us to see whether it would be possible for the date of your preference and what the charge would be.
No alcohol is allowed on this program.
