A Wild Night Out - then home to  your own bed

Great fun for all ages, but some nights are reserved for grownups only

Do you want a “no kids” experience for a change?

We do reserve some nights for guests aged 16 and over. Contact us to enquire about dates.

If you want to spend an evening with the Wild Things, then head home to your own bed

Do you love the idea of a night in the Australian bush, but you want to head home to your own bed at the end of your adventure?

The Australian bush puts on an entrancing display of wild nature after dark. Bring a torch and join in a ranger-led spotlighting tour for a program jam packed with animal action, from meeting Walkabout Park friendly furry and scaly and spiky residents, to playing tug of war with the devils and spotlighting for wildlife in the trees and undergrowth.

Prices & Times:  Your evening ranger-led tour includes day-time General Admission, then stay on after  dark!

6:00pm Animal Encounters & Spotlighting tour: $250 for up to 5 people in your group. Any age. Add $50 per extra person in your group.

Arrive between 3pm and 4:30pm so you can check-in and meet the kangaroos and emus before your tour commences.

If, due to weather or sunset time or animal activity, there are any changes to scheduled times of activities, you will be told of these when you check in.

Ticket Types: Adult & Child

Adult: Age 16 or over. There must be at least one adult in each group.

Child: Age 0 to 15. We do not have a minimum age as many 'zoo snooze' programs do, but you do pay for infants.

Extras: Add late arrival

Usual arrival between 3pm and 4:30pm.

Early arrival between 9am and 3pm add $50.

Late arrival between 4:30pm and 7pm add $50. Gates may be locked. Phone 43751100 on arrival to arrange admittance. Note program still runs from 6pm to 9pm, even if you do arrive late.

What to expect

What to expect: On arrival

Arrive between 3pm and 4:30pm, unless you have made other arrangements with us. If you are doing the evening tour, we don't recommend an early arrival as part of the magic of a nocturnal tour is first meeting the animals at dusk.

If you have arranged to arrive after 4:30pm when the gates may be locked, you will need to phone us on 43751100 to get in.

When you arrive, go to reception to check-in. Your ranger will give you a park map. Most importantly, you will be given easy-to-follow safety information about the animals. This animal safety information is vital as you will be stepping into the animals' world.

Once you have the safety information and your map, you can enter the park and meet the animals. When you check in we will explain to you how to enjoy the park, keeping in mind your and the animals' safety.

Return to the veranda at the Visitor Centre 5 minutes before your tour is due to start. Your ranger will meet you there.

What to expect: Evening Tour - note times may change

5:00pm to 8:30pm APRIL-SEPTEMBER
6:00pm to 9:30pm OCTOBER-MARCH

The Animal Encounters & Spotlighting tour is for all ages and is in two parts with a dinner break.

Meet Walkabout Park’s friendly residents, then go spotlighting to spy on the animals as the bush comes alive at dusk. Play tug of war with the Tasmanian devils. Get up close and hands-on with Australia’s weird and wonderful wildlife. Finish up at the campfire. This tour is designed for all ages.

What to expect: Dinner Break

6:30pm to 7:00pm APRIL-SEPTEMBER
7:30pm to 8:00pm OCTOBER-MARCH

If you are joining the evening spotlighting tour, you are welcome to bring a picnic dinner or refreshments to enjoy during the dinner break. Please bring something that will not require refridgeration.

We suggest something easy and quick. The dinner break is usually only half an hour, so there isn't time to barbeque or prepare a complex meal.

Depending on time of year (and time of sunset) timings of tours and the dinner break will change. We match our schedule to the animals' activities which change depending on time of year and weather.

What to expect: Campfire

8:00pm to 9:00pm APRIL-SEPTEMBER
9:00pm to 10:00pm OCTOBER-MARCH

The Animal Encounters and Spotlighting tour finishes up with a campfire a little after sunset. We supply the marshmallows for toasting and tell Dreamtime stories.

Occasionally, because of extreme weather (e.g. if there are high winds or a total fire ban), we cannot go ahead with the campfire. However, this is very rare.

What to expect: Check-out and departure

Your departure time is the time the program ends.

Cancellation by Walkabout Park

This is an all-weather event so we usually go ahead in the rain. However, if Walkabout Park believes the weather or other conditions may be unsafe for people or animals, we will cancel a booking. Whenever possible, you will be contacted in advance so it is important that you give us contact details that we can use to reach you right up until the time of your arrival. If we cancel your booking you will be given the option of either rescheduling to another date, or receiving a full refund. In the event of bad weather and if you have not heard from us, please call (02) 4375 1100 before 11am on the day of your booking to find out whether the program is going ahead. Note, cancellation due to weather is extremely unlikely as this is an all-weather event, so bring your rain gear as the rain just adds another dimension of fun to the experience.
